Foreign players in the Premier Volleyball League are expected to add firepower and muscle to their teams.
Squads rely on them especially on offense.
While most deliver the numbers expected of them, there are some who put up monster digits on the stats sheet.
Two years ago, Kia Bright registered the PVL’s best scoring output in a single game, which still stands today.
The American import was tapped by BanKo during the league’s second edition of the Reinforced Conference together with Thai Jutarat Montripila.
Bright averaged 20.42 points per game in the elimination round where the Perlas Spikers struggled. BanKo’s fortune changed in the quarterfinals when it swept all of its five games to land a spot in the best-of-three semifinals against PayMaya.
The Perlas Spikers and High Flyers split their first two semis meetings to set up a sudden death on July 6, 2018.
Coming into the deciding Game 3, Bright averaged 29 points per outing in the first two matches.
With the championship seat on the line, Bright came out with a performance to remember.
Bright brought the hammer that day as she pounded a league-best 41 points highlighted by 40 kills off just 91 attempts and added 16 digs.
Bright was already over 30 markers heading into the deciding frame.
But BanKo stumbled in the fifth set early and had to play catch up the whole frame.
Bright tried to keep the Perlas Spikers alive in the closing stretch as she smashed her 41st point to save a match point for BanKo.
Unfortunately, all her efforts in this game went into naught as the Perlas Spikers were booted out of the Finals seat race in a stinging 25-22, 25-14, 14-25, 23-25, 12-15, defeat.
BanKo, however, salvaged a podium finish when it bagged bronze.
For her record feat, Bright received the Most Points Scored recognition during the awarding of individual awards.
