CLEAN SWEEP: The Philippine Volcanoes swept all of the matches in the 28th SEA Games en route to the gold medal.
SINGAPORE – The Philippine Volcanoes fulfilledÂ their vow of bringing himÂ home the gold medal after thrashing Malaysia, 24-7, on Sunday in the finals of the 28th Singapore Southeast Asian Games rugby sevens at the Choa Chu King Stadium here.
Riding high on a five-game sweep of their elimination matches,Â the Filipinos were in sharp form in reasserting their supremacy over the Malaysians, whom they had beaten, 14-10, earlier in the day.
It was a huge improvement for the PH rugby squad, which took the silver medal when the sport was last played in the 2007 Thailand SEA Games.
Sharing the spotlight were the Volcanoes’Â female counterparts, who garnered the bronze medal after outplaying Malaysia, 22-0, in the battle for third place.
