Gilas Cadets ready to take on Indonesia
The Philippines has won the men's basketball gold medal at the SEA Games 16 out of 17 times.

SINGAPOREThe Gilas Pilipinas cadet team showcases its strength for the first time in the 28th Southeast Asian Games against Indonesia at 1 p.m. at the OCBC Arena Hall 1.

Coached by Tab Baldwin and made up of collegiate stars backstopped by naturalized player Marcus Douthit, the team will be shooting for the country’s 17th gold medal in the Sea Games, a task that many say is done even before any of the Filipino players make the first shot.

Making up the celebrated squad are UAAP MVP Kiefer Ravena of Ateneo, Troy Rosario and Glenn Khobuntin of UAAP champion National University, Jiovani Jalalon, Prince Rivero, Almond Vosotros and Norbert Torres of De La Salle, Mac Belo of Far Eastern University, Kevin Ferrer of University of Santo Tomas and NCAA MVP Scottie Thompson of University of Perpetual Help.

After Indonesia, the Gilas Cadets will face Malaysia on Thursday and East Timor on Friday to complete their Group B elimination assignments.

The teams in men’s basketball are divided into two groups with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals on June 14. The finals will be on June 15.
