I’m so proud kasi napapansin nila ang gandang Pilipina -- Rachel Anne Daquis
SINGAPORE --- A Thai TV reporter approached a small group of Filipino sports writers in a hotel lobby where some of the Manila-based media are billeted.
“What is the name of your popular volleyball player,” he asked.
“Alyssa Valdez,” answered one of the Pinoy reporters.
The Thai shook his head, looked at his phone while sliding his thumb on the screen browsing on the Philippine women’s volleyball team’s profile.
“No,” he said. “The pretty one.”
“Is it Rachel Ann Daquis?” said another Filipino journalist.
“Yes, can we talk to her maybe later after the game?” the Thai said.
Daquis is really turning heads and even reporters from different countries in the region wanted to get an interview with the comely former Far Eastern U star.
The Filipinas lost their opening game against Indonesia in the 28th Southeast Asian Games but TV crew and reporters huddled in the mixed zone to take talk with Daquis as the Filipina hogged most of the media attention.
“Nakakatuwa nga po kasi yung ibang interview nila tungkol sa beauty secrets, tungkol sa modelling,” said Daquis, an endorser of a Japan-made sport apparel and whose ad billboards are plastered in a mall and in a train station entrance within the vicinity of the Singapore Sports Hub where the volleyball games and most of the sports events are held.
“Parang kakaiba lang kasi parang dapat ang tanong nila sa games,” she said when Filipino reporters finally got their chance to chat with probably one of the most beautiful faces in the Singapore edition of the meet.
“Pero OK lang kasi I’m so proud kasi napapansin nila ang gandang Pilipina,” she said with a sense of cuteness that can melt anyone’s heart.
