SINGAPORE - Striker Evan Dimas scored a brace as Indonesia blanked the eliminated Philippine squad, 2-0, last Tuesday night at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Dimas quickly pounced on with a strike in the fourth and tenth minutes against the Filipino booters, who absorbed their fourth straight loss in Group A.
The Indonesians kept their semifinal hopes alive in picking up their second win in three outings for a total of six points and battle host Singapore for the other semifinal slot at stake tomorrow.
Myanmar wrapped up the first ticket to the semis after whipping the Philippines, 5-1, last Sunday for its third straight win.
Under coach Marlon Maro, the National Under-23 squad also lost to Singapore (0-1) and Cambodia (1-3), respectively
The last PH squad that saw action in the SEA Games football tournament handled by German mentor Michael Weiss in Indonesia four years ago had a record of one win and four setbacks.
Some of the eligible Azkals, the national senior side, such OJ Porteria, Daisuke Sato, Kenshiro Daniels and Amani Aguinaldo could have made a difference because of their experience but were called up for the World Cup qualifier against Bahrain set for Thursday, June 11 at the Philippine Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.
