Pinoy poomsae jins contribute gold no. 23 to PHI
The team of Dustin Jacob Mella, Raphael Enrico Mella and Rodolfo Reyes Jr. scored for a total of 7.850 points to chip in a gold medal finish after their teammates failed to win the top podium finish in their respective events.

SINGAPORE --- Filipino jins gave Team Philippines its 23rd gold medal after wowing the judges in the men’s team poomsae event in the 28th Southeast Asian Games held Friday at the EXPO Hall 2 here.

The team of Dustin Jacob Mella, Raphael Enrico Mella and Rodolfo Reyes Jr. scored for a total of 7.850 points to chip in a gold medal finish after their teammates failed to win the top podium finish in their respective events.

The Vietnamese trio of Le Hieu Nghia, Le Than Thrung ang Nguyen Thien received the silver medal with a score of 7.720 while Indonesian Muhammad Fitracahyanto, Maulana Haidir and Muhammad Wahyu got the bronze with 7.505 total points.

Other Filipino jins weren’t so lucky in the form event of the martial arts discipline.   

Rinna Babanto started the campaign of the PHI but fell behind by a large margin against Singaporean winner Chelsea Sim in the women’s individual poomsae final.

Babanto settled for silver with 7.480 total points, way behind Sim’s 8.000 points. Indonesian Mutiara Habiba took the bronze medal (7.365).

The 17-year-old Babanto pocketed another medal but this time a bronze with teammates Juvenile Crisostomo and Jocel Lyn Ninobla.

The Pinay trio had a total of 7.630 points from the judges behind gold medalists Tuyet Van Chau, Thi Le Kim Nguyen and Thuy Nguyen of Vietnam (8.130).

Thais Katesara Kiatatchawachai, Wanida Raksasri and Pich-Chapcha Tanakitcharoenpat grabbed bronze with 8.030 points.
