SINGAPORE – Amaya Paz-Cojuangco will have another crack at a third gold medal in the women’s individual compound event on Sunday when she faces Malaysian Fatin Nurfatellah Mat Salleh in the finals of the 28th Singapore Southeast Asian Games archery meet at the Kallan Cricket field here.
While the attention of most Filipino fans were in the high-profile events of athletics and basketball, Cojuangco, a back-to-back champion in the 2005 Philippine and 2007 Thailand SEA Games, marked Philippine Independence day by beating Thailand’s Nareumon Jonsook, 141-135 in the semifinals last Friday.
Salleh took out Indonesian Rona Siska Sari, 143-137, in the other semis.
Cojuangco will not be the only one gunning for medals tomorrow as the national men’s and women’s compound teams will also be vying for the bronze medal against host Singapore in both divisions.
The Filipino archers will also face the Indonesians for the bronze medal in the mixed team compound event the same day.
