Dy, Lehnert settle for silver in tennis women's doubles
Pinay netters Denise Dy and Katharina Lehnert fell victim to Thailand in tennis women's doubles finals.

SINGAPORE --- Denise Dy will have to settle with one gold medal after missing a chance to take a twin win falling short in the tennis women’s finals with partner Katharina Lehnert at the Kallang Tennis Center here.

Dy, who won the country’s 25th gold medal with Treat Huey in the mixed doubles competition, and Lehnert just couldn’t handle the blistering play of the Thai duo of Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Varatchaya Wongteanchai, 3-6, 4-6, Sunday.

The Pinays were a step slower and gave away free points from errors in their game with Dy looking tired with less than an hour of rest after defending her mixed doubles crown she and Huey won four years ago in Palembang, Indonesia.

There was no tennis tournament in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.

It was a sweet revenge for the Thais after their compatriots Peangtarn Plipuech and Sonchat Ratiwatana lost to Huey and Dy, 7-6, 6-4.

Overall the PHI tennis team bagged two medals.
