SINGAPORE—Hopes for a gold medal in sepak takraw emerged on Monday morning in the 28th Southeast Asian Games.
Jason Huerte, Emmanuel Escote and Rheyjey Ortuoste frustrated the Singaporean side of Asfandi Bin Ja’al, Muhamad Safie and Mohamed Amran, 21-12, 19-21, 21-16, at the Singapore Expo Hall to earn a ticket to the finals set for 7 p.m. also on Monday.
The Filipinos will face Myanmar’s Aung Zaw Zaw, Aung Myo Swe and Zaw Lah—21-7, 21-9 winners over Laos in the other semifinals.
The Philippines, which brought home a bronze medal with a three-member team in Myanmar two years ago, has yet to break the medal tally in sepak takraw.
Myanmar, on the other hand, has already won two gold and as many silver medals in the sport in the games.
