Nat'l women's volleyball team begins SEAG training

The national women's volleyball team members that showed up in the squad's training Friday.
Team captain Mika Reyes and Alyssa Valdez led the first day of practice of the national women’s volleyball team Friday at the Arellano University gym in Taft Avenue.
Nine players including pool member Ria Meneses showed up for training since the announcement of the final lineup of the national team that will see action in the AVC Asian Women’s Seniors Championship and the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August.
Aside from the three, other members who joined the training were Denden Lazaro, Rhea Dimaculangan, Gen Casugod, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Ces Molina.
Lazaro had to leave early to attend another training for her club team Cocolife.
Members of the 14-woman final lineup who skipped training were 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago, Maika Ortiz, Aby Marano, setter Kim Fajardo, libero Dawn Macandili and Rachel Anne Daquis.
Assistant coach Brian Esquibel said that Santiago was at National University’s practice, Ortiz and Daquis were out due to personal reasons while Marano, Fajardo and Macandili came in late after attending F2 Logistics’ training in nearby De La Salle University.
Assistant coaches Esquibel, Ian Fernandez, Ronald Dulay, Manny Calipes and Nene Ybanez-Chavez supervised the practice as head coach Francis Vicente was under the weather.
