KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia --- Filipino triathlete Nikko Huelgas retained his men’s division throne while Kim Mangrobang conquered the distaff side as Team Philippines completed a golden sweep in the sport Monday morning in the 29th Southeast Asian Games.
It was a 1-2 finish for both the PHI’s men’s and women’s bets at the podium. Huelgas and Mangrobang delivered the country's second and third gold medals after Mary Joy Tabal broke the mint drought with a top finish in women's marathon Saturday.
Huelgas duplicated his golden finis two years ago in Singapore after crossing the finish line with a clocking of 1:59:30 ahead of compatriot John Chican (2:01:27) and Singaporean Clement Chow (2:03:24) at the Water Sports Complex in Putrajaya here.
Mangrobang, silver medalist in the 2015 edition, this time bagged the gold medal with a 2:11:14 finish while Claire Adorna, who took the gold in Singapore two years, settled for silver (2:18:58).
