KUALA LUMPUR --- Vietnam dealt the Philippine national women's volleyball team a crushing blow, 26-24, 25-12, 25-23, Friday in the 29th Southeast Asian Games Friday at the MITEC Hall 11 here.
It was a sweet victory for the 2015 Singapore edition silver medalists as they completed a payback against the Nationals who defeated them in four sets in the quarterfinals classification round of the 19th AVC Asian Senior Women’s Championship in Binan, Laguna a week ago.
Tran Thi Thahn Thuy and team captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa did most of the damage with 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Vietnam.
Vietnam closed the group stage with a perfect 2-0 win-loss record and booked a knock out semifinal match against 2015 bronze medalist Indonesia on Saturday.
The PHI dropped to 1-1 and will take on powerhouse team Thailand, which has been dominating the competition since 1995.
Alyssa Valdez led the PHI with 11 points while Jaja Santiago had 10 markers.
