Pinay spikers bow out of gold medal round spot race
The Philippine national women's volleyball team bowed out of the gold medal round spot race in a straight sets loss to powerhouse Thailand.

KUALA LUMPUR --- Thailand reasserted its mastery over the Philippines to book another gold medal round ticket in the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

The 12-time champions defeated the Filipinas, 25-21, 25-17, 25-17, Saturday morning in the knockout semifinal at the MITEC Hall 11 here.

Thailand will take on the survivor between Vietnam and Indonesia, the 2015 Singapore edition silver and bronze medal winners, respectively, for the top podium finish.

The Thais also dominated the PHI last week in the quarterfinals of the 2017 AVC Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship.

The Nationals still have a chance to duplicate the bronze medal finish of the 2005 team against the Vietnam-Indonesia loser on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
