The Philippine national women's volleyball team is looking for a fresh start.
KUALA LUMPUR --- The Philippine national women’s volleyball team’s journey doesn’t stop after missing a podium finish in the 29th Southeast Asian Games.
Head coach Francis Vicente will give his team a little time to lick its wounds after a devastating 27-25, 22-25, 20-25, 21-25, bronze medal loss to Vietnam Sunday morning at the MITEC Hall 11 before again buckling down to business.
The Nationals are set to return to Manila on Monday and take a short rest before flying to Sisaket, Thailand on Sept. 2 to compete in the Thailand Invitational that will run until Sept. 8, the same tourney where Philippine Superliga club team Foton campaigned last year.
They will take on the top four in the Thailand Volleyball League – Supreme Chonburi, Bangkok Glass, Nakhon Ratchasima and 3BB Nakornnont in the said competition. The Vietnam national team will also see action.
After the tournament, the 14-man team is expected to train regularly depending on the schedule of the players.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas is also looking at forming a Team B or youth team to increase the talent pool of the national team.
Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano appeared to have validated that blueprint when he told the team that he would support the training and international exposure up to the 2019 SEA Games in Manila.
Cayetano will serve as chairman of the SEA Games Organizing Committee and he will leave no stone unturned in making sure that the country will win its first medal since earning a bronze medal in the 2005 biennial meet in Manila.
