The SM MOA Arena in Pasay will now host men's and women's basketball in the 2019 SEA Games, PHILSGOC executive director Tats Suzara revealed on Wednesday.
"MOA Arena is a friend. They're the only world-class venue, in my opinion, in the Philippines," Suzara told reporters in a press conference at the venue itself. "They have delivered a lot of world-class sporting events, not only entertainment."
A week ago, it was reported that basketball in the regional meet will be played at the Filoil Flying V Centre in Mandaluyong.
"The challenge here in Metro Manila ay Araneta [Colisum] and MOA Arena are big venues na mahirap kuhanin," Suzara said in a radio interview.
He then continued, "Again, sanay naman tayo sa sports sa backup plan so we were able to find solutions. As an update, basketball will now be in Filoil [Flying V Centre]."
Now, though, the PHILSGOC exec. dir. is glad to report that five-on-five basketball will be played inside the 20,000-seater SM MOA Arena.
"After a lot of meetings, discussions, and telephone calls, finally, we have this venue. I'm sure everyone is happy," he said.
More than that, speed skating, ice skating, and ice hockey will be held in the Pasay venue as well.
San Juan, meanwhile, will still host 3x3 basketball.
