Walang issue diyan –- Cayetano on PHISGOC Foundation

There’s only one organizing committee and there’s only one juridical entity, which is the PHISGOC. Kaya Foundation kasi we didn’t put it up as a profit-stock corporation -- PHISGOC Foundation chairman Alan Peter Cayetano
Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee Foundation Inc. chairman Alan Peter Cayetano stressed that they have the control over the staging of the biennial meet scheduled for November of this year.
Cayetano in a press briefing on Thursday said that the PHISGOC, which was the ad hoc committee to run the Games that are slated in November after the country regained the hosting rights two years ago under the term of then Philippine Olympic Committee president Peping Cojuangco, and the PHISGOC Foundation incorporated by resigned POC president Ricky Vargas this year, are one and the same body.
Cayetano made his statement following current POC president Joey Romasanta’s claim that PHISGOC Foundation is not recognized by the POC Board.
“That’s why I’m saying walang issue diyan eh. Sila lang nagsasabi nun,” he said.
In 2017, Cayetano was chosen by President Rodrigo Duterte as the consensus leader to organize the SEA Games. Under the guidance of the President, PHISGOC was structured in order to involve all stakeholders, public and private sectors and sports leaders, in a shared responsibility to ensure unity in organizing the Games.
“There’s only one organizing committee and there’s only one juridical entity, which is the PHISGOC. Kaya 'Foundation' kasi we didn’t put it up as a profit-stock corporation,” Cayetano cleared.
“Mas malaking issue yun kung ginawa naming korporasyon kasi that means the shareholders will get a profit from the money,” he added. “But sa Foundation very strict ang BIR dyan at saka SEC kung saan mapupunta ang pera in accordance with the purpose.”
Romasanta, who replaced Vargas after he stepped down from his post on Tuesday after winning the seat in a re-election over Cojuangco February last year, said that the POC does not recognize the PHISGOC Foundation, saying that it’s a different body from the original national organizing committee two years ago.
But Cayetano insisted that they had the POC Board’s approval in the first place.
“Now as far as PHISGOC’s incorporation I already told them [POC], kasi I talked to some of them sa phone, I told them ‘Bakit hindi niyo tanong kay Cong. Peping?’ Kasi si Cong. Peping at Joey Romasanta ang nagsabi na i-incorporate natin. Si Ricky Vargas nu’ng dumating siya, decision na ng Board yun eh, ng organizing committee, ng NOC pa lang nun. Wala pa kaming pangalan nu’n, NOC pa lang. So part of the compromise para matuloy yung Games is magkaroon ng NOC which was later named PHISGOC,” Cayetano explained.
Despite all the issues PHISGOC is facing, Cayetano assured, and was backed by Philippine Sports Commission chairman and SEA Games chef de mission Butch Ramirez, that Games will push through.
