The Philippines is pulling out all the stops in hosting the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Tony awardee Lea Salonga, National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab, and Palanca award-winning writer and director Floy Quintos have formed a dream team to create the official theme song for the 2019 SEA Games.
The song, entitled, “We Win As One,” was uveiled Tuesday at the Grand Bar and Lounge in Resorts World Manila. The song was written by Quintos, composed by Cayabyab, and performed by Ms. Salonga.
“The tagline We Win As One, yun pa lang napaka-laking inspiration na,” said Cayabyab.
“We’re not just talking about ourselves as a nation, we’re also talking about our relationship with our neighboring countries,” he added.
For Salonga, singing official theme song for this year’s SEA Games is a chance for her to represent the country again through her incredible talents.
Of course, that means making sure her representation is always top-notch.
“I guess representing my country, whether or not I even think about it, is just something I just kinda do, especially when I’m performing outside of the Philippines,” Salonga said.
“Parang nasa balikat ko pa rin yung bayan ko. So for me, I always have to put my best foot forward kasi you never know who’s watching. When it’s very specific for something like this, that’s when I really have to be really mindful, every note I sing dapat walang mali, dapat hindi sintunado. Because I know that there’s a greater impression to made, it’s not just Lea Salonga singing. It’s Lea Salonga from the Philippines,” she added.

To go along with the actual song, the music video also premiered Tuesday.
Produced by Equinox Manila and directed by Shem Hampac, the music video for “We Win As One” shows Ms. Salonga singing with the New Clark City serving as background. The music video also features footage from select SEA Games athletes and is already available for viewing across all SEA Games social media platforms.
