NO GO -- Motolite declined to grant the request of Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. to allow setter Iris Tolenada to train and play with the national team in the ASEAN Grand Prix.

The national women’s volleyball team hit another snag after Motolite declined to loan setter Iris Tolenada for the inaugural ASEAN Grand Prix in Thailand.

Tolenada was supposed to join the Nationals in Bangkok for a training camp as part of its build-up for the tournament in Nakhon Ratchasima starting Sept. 20 this coming Sunday together with other Premier Volleyball League players who are in the line-up.

But Richard Chan of Motolite replied to Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc.’s request that the team can’t release the Fil-American playmaker while the PVL Season 3 Open Conference is still ongoing.

“We regret to inform you that we cannot release Ms. Tolenada at this point in time since our team is currently playing in the Season 3 Open Conference of the Premier Volleyball League or PVL,” according to Motolite’s reply to LVPI president Joey Romasanta. “Our team has several games scheduled already and we’re still in the middle of the first round of the conference.”

Ten of the 16-woman Nationals roster are already in Thailand while other members of the squad Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado of Creamline, Maddie Madayag of ChocoMucho, Eya Laure of UST and Jovelyn Gonzaga of PacificTown Army are set to join the team on Sept. 15.

A number of players have given up their slots in the national pool last week with Jaja Santiago failing to get the green light from her Japan V. Premier League Club team Ageo Medics to train and participate in the Nationals campaign in the ASEAN Grand Prix and in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila in November.

Creamline’s Galanza and Celine Domingo, Motolite’s Tots Carlos, Angel Cayuna and Jerrili Malabanan also withdrew from the pool.
