The national women’s volleyball team absorbed a five-set defeat at the hands of Thailand U-23 team.
The national women’s volleyball team had a great start only to falter in the end as the Filipinas fell short in their first of a series of tune-up games in their training camp in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Thailand U-23 team dealt the Nationals a 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 13-15, loss on Monday at the FIVB-Development Center.
All of the 10 members of the squad who were already in Thailand saw minutes on the floor as the Nationals took the first two sets before the host university team regrouped to steal the match from the Filipinas, who are preparing for the ASEAN Grand Prix in Nakhon Ratchasima on Sept. 20.
Thailand’s powerhouse senior squad will host the Filipinas on Tuesday at the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Gym. The PHI team will then take on Thailand's U23 national team on Sept. 11.
On Sept. 12, Bangkok University will play the Nationals and on Sept. 15, the Filipinas will face Japan's V-League runner-up Toray Arrows, who also bagged the championship of 2018-19 All-Japan Kurowashiki tournament.
Already in Thailand are skipper Aby Marano, Fil-American spiker Kalei Mau, Alohi Robins-Hardy, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Mylene Paat, Majoy Baron, Ces Molina, Roselyn Doria, Dawn Macandili and Kath Arado.
Other members of the squad Alyssa Valdez, Jia Morado, Maddie Madayag, Eya Laure and Jovelyn Gonzaga are set to join the team on Sept. 15 in the team’s first step in its buildup for the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila in November.
