Baron bags best middle blocker award in ASEAN GP

Majoy Baron brought home an extra piece of hardware hours after helping the Philippine national women’s volleyball team bag the bronze medal in the inaugural ASEAN Grand Prix on Sunday at the Terminal 21 Mall in Nakhon Ratchasima.
The F2 Logistics star made was a dominating force at the net in the first leg of the four-nation tournament to earn the Best Middle Blocker recognition following the Nationals’ five set win over Vietnam.
Baron averaged 12.3 points per game and normed one block per set for the Filipinas.
She saved her best for last as she scored six kill blocks in her 13-point output in the Nationals’ 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-12, win for a podium finish.
Thailand swept the tournament with a four-set win over Indonesia to claim the gold medal.
Thailand’s Sittirak Onuma was named Most Valuable Player, Chatchu-on Moksri bagged the Best Spiker award, Indonesian Tri Retno Mutiara was the Best Receiver while Megawati Hangestri of Indonesia and Thi Kim Lien Nguyen of Vietnam got the Best Server and Best Libero awards, respectively.
The ASEAN GP will make its second stop in Sta. Rosa, Laguna from Oct. 4-6.
