Grethcel Soltones will join the national team in the second leg of the ASEAN Grand Prix.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. tapped the PLDT Home Fibr duo of Grethcel Soltones and setter Jasmine Nabor to join the national women's volleyball team for the second leg of the ASEAN Grand Prix this weekend in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The duo will fill in the void left by injured hitter Kalei Mau and playmaker Alohi Robins-Hardy for the tournament slated on Oct. 4-6 at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.
Mau is nursing a left achilles injury while Robins-Hardy was deemed ineligible for failing to secure a Philippine passport. The Fil-American pair helped the Nationals finish third in the four-nation tournament's inaugural leg in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand a week ago.
Soltones and Nabor have already represented the country multiple times in the international arena.
Soltones suited up for the Nationals in the 2015 Asian U-23 Championship held in Pasig City and the Singapore Southeast Asian Games four years ago. She last saw action for the PHI together with Nabor in the AVC Asian Cup in Thailand last year.
Premier Volleyball League players Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado of Creamline, PacificTown Army's Jovelyn Gonzaga, Eya Laure of UST and Maddie Madayag of ChocoMucho got the green light to join the Nationals according to LVPI president Joey Romasanta.
But Valdez, Morado and Madayag won't be available for Saturday's game as they will be playing an out-of-town game in Iloilo. Gonzaga will stay with the Nationals despite her club's scheduled game also on Saturday.
Back for the Nationals are skipper Aby Marano, Ces Molina, ASEAN GP opening leg Best Middle Blocker Majoy Baron, Mylene Paat, Roselyn Doria, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Kath Arado and Dawn Macandili.
