2019 ASEAN Grand Prix: Thailand completes second golden finish

STA. ROSA, Laguna --- Powerhouse Thailand completed its back-to-back gold medal haul after sweeping winless Vietnam, 25-21, 25-12, 25-11, at the close of the 2019 ASEAN Grand Prix second leg at Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Sta. Rosa Laguna on Sunday.
Malika Kanthong scored 13 points to lead Thailand to its second straight golden finish in the second stop of the four-nation tournament. Pleumjit Thinkaow and Wanitchaya Luangtonglang scored 12 points each and combined for 20 of Thailand’s 42 attack points.
The 11-time Southeast Asian Games champion Thailand swept the tournament without dropping a single set. The only set the Thais yielded was back in the opening leg in Nakhon Ratchasima in their four-set win over the Philippines.
Thi Kieu Trinh Hoang finished with nine points while Thi Trinh Nguyen had four points for Vietnam, which dropped all of its three games in the leg and remained winless since the first leg in Thailand.
