The Philippine national polo team will be leaving for Argentina, Australia, and the United States next week to undergo training before the oncoming 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
The Filipinos - made up of Mikee Romero, Gus Aguirre, Tommy Bitong, Jay de Jesus, Jam Eusebio, Anthony Filamor, Coco Garcia, Santi Juban, Ed Lopez, Marty Romualdez, Tonio Veloso, and Noel Vecimal - are hoping that overseas training with famed Argentine and American players will be the key to their goal of a gold medal in the regional meet in November.
“We intend to win the two gold medals at stake in our sport so we need to train as hard as we can in order to help the country win the overall championship,” said Romero.
In terms of hosting the event, the Philippine National Federation of Polo Players (PNFPP) also bared it will go hi-tech to complement its world-class venue - the Miguel Romero Field in Calatagan, Batangas.
Matches will be shown live via streaming while participants, officials and special guests - including royalties and top government officials of Brunei, Malaysia, and Indonesia - will enjoy free WiFi thanks to PNFPP’s partnership with PLDT and Smart.
“A world-class venue like ours needs excellent communication and we’re happy PLDT-Smart is helping us,” said Romero, the PNFPP founding director.
“For some polo players and officials, it’s going to be business as usual. They don’t have to worry about their businesses back home because they can communicate through the help of that,” added Romero.
