There would be no last-minute equalizer this time, as the Philippine Under-22 Men's Football absorbed a heartbreaking 1-2 loss to Myanmar in the second match of their 2019 Southeast Asian Games campaign, Wednesday evening at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
The Philippines once again found themselves unable to finish off their opportunities as they couldn't convert on early chances.
For the second straight match, the U-22 Azkals conceded first, as Aung Kaung Mann put Myanmar on the board first with a fantastic finish in the 17th minute from an assist from Myat Kaung Khant.
The Pinoy side would manage to pull even just before the mid-game break, thanks to Justin Baas, who was able to finish from a cross from Yrick Gallantes that bounced off Dennis Chung and landed in range.
It was the same story for the U-22 Azkals in the second half, as they found themselves coming within inches of finding the back of the net, but ultimately missing.
Win Naing Tun scored the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute, shaking off his defender before firing past Azkals keeper Anthony Pinthus and sealing the deal for the visitors.
With the loss, the U-22 Azkals drop to one draw and one loss in two matches played. Myanmar meanwhile, records the first win in Group A and they improve to one win and one draw in two matches for four points.
The Azkals return to the pitch for a crucial matchup against Malaysia on Friday, November 29th at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. Kickoff time will be at 8:00 PM.
