The Philippine national team went on a hot start sweeping Timor Leste, 2-0, in their opening day tie in the 30th Southeast Asian Games men’s beach volleyball competition at the converted Subic Tennis Court Friday.
Jaron Requinton and James Buytrago opened the Filipinos’ domination with a 21-16, 21-13, victory over Jean Christian Da Silva and Xavier Fernandes in the first of the best-of-three team duel.
Not to be outdone, Edmar Bonono and Jude Garcia followed their compatriots' triumph with a 21-7, 21-16, drubbing of Denyanus Belo and Aduano Da Silva for the Nationals’ shutout victory.
The Filipinos will face Malaysia next on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Pinay pairs Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons, and Dzi Gervacio and Dij Rodriguez going up against Indonesia in the afternoon session.
