Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo had the fans at Rizal Memorial Coliseum on their feet as he captured gold in the Men's Individual All-Around category of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Sunday afternoon in Manila.

Yulo, who recently captured gold in the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, made his SEA Games debut and starred for the Filipino contingent, finishing in the top-3 of all six the day's events. The 19-year old topped the Floor Exercise event with a score of 14.600, as well as the Horizontal Bar event, finishing with a score of 13.750. He finished second in the Still Rings with 13.600, Vault with 14.900, and Parallel Bars with14.400, and finished third in the Pommel Horse with 13.600.

He finished with  an overall score of 84.900.

"Maraming-maraming salamat sa support niyo sa amin dito. Grabe, wala akong masabi," said Yulo, who was showered with cheers each time he would begin and end a routine. A far cry from his experience in Stuttgart back in October, wherein he didn't have the support of a hometown crowd.

"Here, I'd say the crowd gives more attention to Philippine team. In Germany it's like nobody knows me, so I'm just doing my thing. I'm not even scared," he said.

Vietnam rounded out the podium finishers, with Phuong Thahn Dihn capturing silver with an overall score of 82.350, and Thanh Tung Le capturing bronze with an overall score of 81.700.

Also representing the Philippines in the competition were 2017 SEA Games gold medalist Reyland Capellan, Justine Ace De Leon, and Jan Gywnn Timbang.
