SUBIC - Kim Mangrobang and John “Rambo” Chicano brought their individual greatness over to the triathlon mixed relay event in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Chicano finished what Mangrobang started as Team Philippines dominated the first and only team event in triathlon, Monday at Subic Bay boardwalk, with a total time of 1:33:47.

A day after winning her second straight gold in women’s triathlon, Mangrobang got the Filipinos going. "Mas relaxed kami kasi yesterday, nakita na namin mga kalaban namin. Alam din naming may dalawa kaming fresh legs," she said about her mindset going into her second triathlon in two days.

Fernando Casares and Claire Adorna only followed suit with each and every member of the team having to complete 340-meter swim, a 6.6-kilometer bike, and 1.8-kilometer run courses.

Adorna then tagged in Chicano, the gold medalist in men’s triathlon in this edition of the regional meet, who made sure there was no doubt that the host country reigned supreme in the swim-bike-run endurance races in the regional meet.

"Masaya po kami dahil dito na naman nakuha yung gold sa hometown ko. Para sa Pilipinas 'to," he said with a smile even though he had to run an extra 200 meters by virtue of being the last participant for his side.

In the end, the Filipinos’ total time was nearly four minutes clear of silver medalist Singapore who logged in at 1:37:58.

The bronze medal went to Indonesia which clocked in at 1:38:57.
