Torres strikes gold, Delos Reyes seizes silver in SEA Games duathlon

SUBIC - Monica Torres ruled women's duathlon to add one more to the Philippines' gold rush in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Monday at Subic Bay Boardwalk.
Torres was simply a cut above the rest, dominating the first two phases in the run-bike-run endurance race for a total time of 2:08:44.
"Ito po ay different kind of feeling for me," she beamed afterward. "Yung sacrifices in training, lahat naman ng athlete, nakakaranas nyan, but special 'tong panalong 'to kasi it's for Team Philippines."
The 35-year-old was done with the first running course in just 38 minutes and 16 seconds and was over with the biking course in only an hour, eight minutes, and 23 seconds.
In all, the Filipina was almost three minutes faster than her closest competitor in Thailand's Pareeya Sonsem.
Sonsem logged a total time at 2:11:18 while Tri Phuong Tring Nguyen of Vietnam bagged the bronze with a 2:14:20 finish.
Jelsie Sabado, the Philippines' other bet, placed sixth at 2:19:17.
Over in the men's side, Filipino Joey delos Reyes wound up in second-place, not that far behind from gold medalist John Jauhari of Indonesia.
Delos Reyes finished at 1:53:04 for the silver medal, just 13 seconds behind Jauhari at 1:52:51.
Completing the podium is Nattawut Srinate of Thailand who logged a time of 1:53:05.
Filipino Jarwin Banatao was ranked fifth at 1:55:19.
