MANILA — Great start for the Philippines in billiards action of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Two Filipino pairs are through to the semifinals of men’s 9-ball doubles after Tuesday’s games at the Manila Hotel Tent here.
Philippines 1 with Carlo Biado and Johann Chua continue to roll, picking up a 9-3 win over Indonesia’s Jefry Zen and Nasution Irsal Afrinneza in the quarterfinals.
Biado and Chua earlier beat Malaysia, 9-2, to start the SEA Games off.
Philippines 2 with Warren Kiamco and Jeffrey Ignacio also picked up a quarterfinal victory but they needed some clutch hits to survive Brunei’s M Murni Ahmad Taufic and Abu Bakar Muhammad Azim, 9-8.
Up 8-6, Kiamco missed a game-winner and Brunei rallied to win the next two racks. In the decider, Kiamco almost missed an 8-ball and Ignacio finished it off by knocking down the final 9-ball for the win.
