Coming off a morale-boosting win, the Philippine men’s volleyball team sets its sights on clinching a semifinals berth in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Nationals will take on Vietnam at 6:00 p.m. in Pool B play with the golden opportunity to advance in the next round at stake.
The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, iWant and via livestream.
Behind the heroics of Marck Espejo and the breakout game of young setter Joshua Retamar, the Filipinos beat Cambodia, 29-27, 25-17, 25-17, on Monday for a great start in their bid to end a 28-year medal drought in the biennial meet.
“Basta tuluy-tuloy lang ‘yung ginagawa namin,” said head coach Dante Alinsunurin. “Kailangan din talaga naming manalo para makapasok kami sa semifinals.”
The mentor stressed that the Nationals should rectify the mistakes they made in the first game and keep their focus on their main goal.
“Importante lang talaga ‘yung mga ginagawa namin na mali, ma-correct namin then kung ano pa ‘yung pwede pa naming i-adjust sa laro. Dun na lang kami magko-concentrate,” added Alinsurin.
The Vietnamese are coming off a 20-25, 22-25, 21-25, loss at the hands of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Myanmar and Singapore will faceoff in the Pool A curtain-raiser at 1:30 p.m. while Indonesia and Cambodia clash at 3:30 p.m.
