SUBIC - The Philippines fell short in building on its momentum in sepak takraw in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games as it faltered against powerhouse Myanmar in the men’s doubles event, 2-1, Thursday at the Gymnasium here.
The Filipino side actually fired the opening salvo, 21-15 and 21-17 before Myanmar restored order.
Myanmar silenced the host country and its home crowd in the second regu, 21-16 and 21-13, and then dominated the last regu, 21-13 and 21-12.
The Philippines was coming into the contest on a morale-high after winning double gold in the sepak takraw hoop events last Sunday.
With that, Myanmar advanced to the gold medal match opposite Indonesia which blanked Vietnam.
The Filipinos, meanwhile, have been forced to settle for bronze.
