Already assured of a spot in the semis, the Philippines primes up for the next round when it clashes with Indonesia on Friday to end the 30th Southeast Asian Games men’s volleyball Pool B elimination round at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Both the host team and Indonesia are unbeaten after two outings making their 6:00 p.m. match a crucial clash for their seeding in the crossover Final Four against the squads advancing in Pool A.
The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, iWant and via livestream.
The Nationals made history on Wednesday after knocking out 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games bronze medalist Vietnam out of medal contention with a straight sets shocker.
The win propels the Philippines closer to its goal of ending a 28-year medal drought.
But the Nationals need not to relax as the match against the crisp-hitting Indonesians will determine their road to the podium.
“Una siyempre kailangan makuha namin [ang panalo] para makaiwas kami sa Thailand,” said PHI head coach Dante Alinsunurin, talking about avoiding an early clash with defending four-time champion Thailand in the semis.
Just like the Philippines, the Indonesians swept their first two games against Vietnam and Cambodia.
“Importante lang talaga ang gagawin namin sa paglaro sa Indonesia and dapat ready kami lagi. A-game talaga ang importante sa laro na yun. Di kami dapat mag-relax sa sitwasyon,” added Alinsunurin.
Meanwhile, semis-bound Thailand and Myanmar faceoff at 1:00 p.m. as they joust for position in the Final Four.
Vietnam and Cambodia meet at 3:30 p.m. to end their group stage campaign.
