Mariya Takahashi chipped in a gold medal for Team Philippines after conquering the judo women's -70kg. division.
A sweep of two obstacle course events and the crowning of a new marathon queen highlighted Day 6 of Team Philippines’ campaign in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Friday.
Team Philippines kept a steady flow of mints to its coffer for a total of 71 gold medals with 55 silvers and 50 bronze. Indonesia overtook Vietnam behind the host team with a total of 40-41-47 gold-silver-bronze collection.
Christine Hallasgo scored a huge upset when she dethroned fellow Filipina Mary Joy Tabal to snare the women’s marathon gold at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Tarlac.
She conquered the 42-kilometer race in 2 hours, 56 minutes and 56 seconds ahead of silver medalist Tabal, who crossed the finish line with a 2:58:49 clocking.
In Filinvest City, Alabang, Mervin Guarte and Menchi Abahan won the men’s and women’s individual 5Kx20 obstacle course, respectively.
Michael Comaling ruled the men’s modern pentathlon beach triathlete individual at the Subic Boardwalk while at the Luisita Golf and Country Club, Asian Games gold medalist Bianca Pagdanganan earned her mint in the individual event.
In judo, Mariya Takahashi reigned supreme in the women’s -70 kgs. division while the mixed team of Jemyca Aribado, Reymark Begornia, Robert Garcia and William David delivered gold in squash.
