Filipino tennister Francis Casey Alcantara finally captured his first gold medal in the SEA Games after he and his Men's Tennis doubles partner Jeson Patrombon defeated fellow Pinoys Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales Jr. in the finals of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Men's Doubles Tennis tournament, Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Alcantara and Patrombon churned out a hard-fought two set win, 7-6, 7-5 against their top-seeded opponents in front of a Pinoy crowd that was more than happy to see their own kababayans succeed in the highest level of the competition.

For the 27-year old Alcantara, he as just as happy to be able to make personal history in front of a crowd that was nothing but supportive.

"2015 bronze, 2017 silver, eto na, eto na yun. Amazing. Amazing, in front of the crowd," he said.

What's more, is that being able to compete in the SEA Games in the Philippines - let alone win - was a long-time dream for the Cagayan de Oro-native.

Alcantara was in attendance when the Philippines last hosted the SEA Games.

"I was here actually nung 2005 SEA Games, 13 years old ako, nanood lang ako, wishing na mabigyan ako ng chance na makalaro, and right now, it's just unbelieveable."

While Alcantara is no stranger SEA Games competition, having claimed podium finishes in 2015 and 2017, being able to win it all at home is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.

"It's different, diba? Like, homecourt advantage, malayo. I mean, we had support there, pero not as much as it is like this, like, look at you guys," he said.

"You guys stayed [kahit] sobrang init, we played at like 12:30, 1PM and andun lahat sa court, yung mga nanood, nasa stands, it's an unbelieveable feeling talaga. Super thank you," Alcantara added.
