Volleyball action continues for national team member Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas as the country’s top scoring duo are set to fly abroad for their respective clubs.
A night after helping the Philippine men’s volleyball squad cop the silver medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Bagunas will return to Japan to rejoin his Japan V. Premier League cub Oita Miyoshi Weiss Adler.
“Babalik na agad ako bukas [Wednesday] ng umaga kasi important game namin this weekend kasi home game ‘yun,” said Bagunas on Tuesday following the PHI’s 21-25, 25-27, 17-25, loss to gold medalist Indonesia at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Bagunas will try to help the Weiss Adlerm hurdle FC Tokyo.
“Makalalaban namin sila sa ranking doon sa home game namin kaya kailangan akong bumalik agad sa Japan para makasama sila at mag-training,” added Bagunas, who had already spent five months in Japan before flying back to Manila on Nov. 30 to fulfill his tour of duty.
Meanwhile, Espejo will spread his wings in Thailand as an import for Visakha Volleyball Club.
“Before nu’ng game, may pinasa sa aking article. Siguro Thailand na rin naglabas,” confirmed Espejo. “Maglalaro ako sa isang Thai club, Visakha. Aalis ako sa [Dec.] 15 hanggang April [next year].”
This will be Espejo’s second international club stint since playing for Oita Miyoshi last year.
The pair helped the National end a 28-year medal drought since finishing third in the 1991 edition of the biennial meet and duplicated the country's best finish since winning the silver medal in the 1977 SEA Games in Malaysia.
