The Philippines won its first and last medals in the 2019 SEA Games in Subic
SUBIC - The Philippines bagged bronze in 2019 Southeast Asian Games beach handball even as it succumbed to Thailand, 34-40, Wednesday at the converted Tennis Court here.
The Filipinos rang off two wins in a row to commence their campaign, but ran out of gas in their last two, ultimately falling to the Thais with the silver medal on the line.
They actually had a shot at the gold, but had to find a way through Thailand.
Instead, the home country settled for third-place in the new sport in the regional meet.
Still, the bronze is a much welcome ending to the Philippines’ run in the SEA Games.
The host country won its first medal, a golden one in men’s triathlon, in Subic and also closes its campaign with another mint in the same place.
This punctuates the Filipinos’ inspired performance at home that got 149 gold and totaled 386 medals - far and away ruling the 11-country competition.
The biennial event concludes with a grand ceremony at New Clark City in Tarlac.
All set to perform are the Black Eyed Peas and Arnel Pineda before the Philippines passes on the hosting mantle to Vietnam.
