POC welcomes six new regular members

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino welcomed six new regular members on Tuesday.
Six sports were given regular membership by the Philippine Olympic Committee on Tuesday during its general assembly at the Conrad Hotel.
POC president Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino led the distribution of certificate of regular membership to representatives of surfing, modern pentathlon, bridge, kurash, jiu-jitsu and sambo after getting their approval in the general assembly.
The six sports will join the 43 national sports associations as regular members of the POC, enjoying the privileges of accorded to members of the country’s Olympic body including casting their votes in the POC election.
Some of the said sports delivered medals for Team Philippines’ cause during the 30th Southeast Asian Games held in the country recently, where the host delegation won the overall championship with 149 gold, 117 silver and 121 bronze medals.
Surfing collected two gold medals, two silver and three bronze; modern pentathlon had two gold, one silver and two bronze; kurash got one gold, two silver and five bronze; jiu-jitsu accounted for five gold, three silver and three bronze while sambo bagged two gold, one silver and three bronze medals for Team Philippines.
