Filipino mixed martial arts gets a huge, much needed boost, as the Southeast Asia’s first and largest MMA promotion, the Universal Reality Combat Championships or URCC partners with ABS-CBN.

In a small press conference that took place April 1st at Wingman in Acacia Estates, URCC founder Alvin Aguilar, ABS-CBN Narrowcast head March Ventosa, and ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena were all present to formalize the partnership, which will bring URCC and its brand of Filipino combat sports to a bigger audience.

“We’re very very happy that of course, this is like a dream come true to finally have ABS-CBN as our partner, we’ve waited a long time for this, and finally it’s gonna happen.” Aguilar told the media during the presser. “We’re gonna take Filipino mixed martial arts, real Filipino mixed martial arts to the next level. “

“Always, at the back of our heads at ABS-CBN, we felt that the real excitement and interest for the sport will come from the local audience, and I think it’s perfectly timed, it’s the right time for local MMA to be brought into the mainstream.” Laurena said of the partnership.

The URCC was founded in 2002, and has already held over 50 fight cards all over the country.

According to Aguilar, they will be having eleven fight cards in 2016, starting with URCC 27: Rebellion on April 23 at the Marriot Hotel Ballroom, and it will also mark the first card that ABS-CBN will cover as the URCC’s broadcast partners.

URCC 27: Rebellion will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between reigning URCC Featherweight king Red Romero and challenger Do Gyeom Lee of South Korea. Also on the card will be a lightweight title bout between Will Chope and Richie Redman, a flyweight title bout between reigning champion Hideo Morikawa from Japan and CJ De Tomas, plus two more title bouts and a handful of exciting undercard matchups.

URCC 27: Rebellion will air live at 9:00 PM on ABS-CBN Sports+Action 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD 166, and livestreaming on!
