Some of the best athletes in the Philippines gather on the It's Showtime stage to help unveil ABS-CBN Sports+Action's new theme song and station ID
The new theme song and station ID of ABS-CBN Sports+Action was offically unveiled, Monday afternoon on ABS-CBN's flagship noontime variety show It's Showtime in the form of a live performance by the theme song's writer and composer, Jose "Quest" Villanueva III.
The tagline of the new station ID, "Sumasaludo sa pusong palaban ng lahing Pilipino" is no doubt the perfect nod to the Filipino athlete.
As Quest sang the words to "Tibay", one by one, some of the athletes featured on the station ID emerged onstage, including visually impaired triathletes Jerome and Joshua Nelmida, 69-year old ultramarathoner Rosalinda Ogsimer, cancer survivors and Manila Dragons rowing team members Sandra Dos Remedios and Editha Esguerra, Beach Volleyball Republic founder Charo Soriano, collegiate stars Grethcel Soltones and Jeron Teng, MMA champions Brandon Vera and Chris Hofmann, and Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
"Proud. Wala pa akong masabi eh, yun lang, proud talaga." ONE Heavyweight Champion Brandon Vera told ABS-CBN Sports. "Nararamdaman ko talaga sa dibdib ko, parang totoo ba 'to? Para akong nananaginip eh."
Vera said he wasn't sure about what was happening until he saw the whole station ID in it's entirety, and that's when an overwhelming feeling of honor came to him.
"I didn't realize what we were doing until we got back and I was watching the video, and I was like 'Tayo pala yun! Oh sh*t man, yan nga oh, ayan tayo!' Nagulat ako, we are doing big things for the Philippines."
I want a copy. I wanna watch it all the time, it's very inspiring, parang 'Kayang- kaya mo, don't quit!', Ganun talaga ang Pinoy. That's what I thought of the video." Vera added.
For his part, DLSU Green Archers star Jeron Teng said that he was blessed to be part of such a strong campaign.
"Syempre, blessed ako, ang lakas ng impact nung video, and hopefully maka-inspire yun sa kabataan to excel through sports. Teng told ABS-CBN Sports. "It feels good na part ako of something na ganun kaganda yung campaign. I just feel really blessed."
And for Rio Olympics silver medalist weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, the video made her proud to be a Filipino athlete.
