Most of your editors here at ABS-CBN Sports are betting big on the FEU Tamaraws to reign supreme this season. To whose squad are you cheering for in September? (Photo by Ria Regino for UAAP Magazine)
We at ABS-CBN Sports have a lot to say about, well, everything, and we’d like to (over)use this site to spill our #feels on the most recent sports news and trending stories. From now on, for twice a week, expect the editors to think out loud on the things that make the sports world exciting—and controversial!
How do you feel about the Philippines losing to China on the FIBA Basketball World Cup hosting bid?
Lorenzo Manguiat/LM (editor-in-chief): Just like most Filipino sports fans, I felt bad about the decision, but in reality and hard as it may be to accept, China is more prepared and equipped to host the event based on their existing infrastructure. I'm hoping though that the Philippines will have better infrastructure and improve the traffic situation in couple of years, so we can have a realistic shot at hosting the FIBA World Cup and other international sports events in the future.
Santino Honasan/SH (section editor): To be honest, it wasn't really surprising, given that China is a far more developed country than the Philippines. What's good though is that we can take this as motivation to better the country in those aspects that China had us beat. Who knows, #PUSO could become a reality in the future?
Tricia/TR (section editor): I felt bad, especially for those who really took the time and effort to put everything together. But I also feel that we're not yet ready to host something as big as FIBA. Dami pa kailangan ayusin. And as they say, di sapat ang puso. #chos
Mark Escarlote/ME (section editor): We may have lost this one but we can still try. Besides we are still hosting the 2019 Southeast Asian Games so let’s make that one a good one.
Paul Lintag/PL (section editor): Not as sad compared to maybe the Philippines losing to China in the finals of FIBA-Asia!
Barry Viloria/BV (lifestyle editor): Quoting my friend on Twitter, I hope we also invested more in #Infra2019.
Now that you've come across all UAAP men’s basketball teams, which squad do you think is the most aggressive to win the Season 78 title?
LM: FEU. The Tamaraws were one win away from winning it all last year. Save for Anthony Hargrove, the Tams' line-up is basically intact. With the likes of Mac Belo, Mike Tolomia and Roger Pogoy, FEU can beat anybody.
TR: With Kiefer Ravena graduating? It's probably Ateneo. That's not to say that all the other teams don't want it as much as the Blue Eagles. Lalaban mga yun for sure! Lalo na NU! Medyo biased ba? Ha ha!
ME: National University is still the team to beat. Of course, Ateneo De Manila, De La Salle, and Far Eastern University will be there but the focus of this coming season will be with the Bulldogs. Everyone will be after them!
Norman Lee Benjamin Riego/NLBR (section editor): UP Fight! Ha ha! Realistically though, the league is set to have a very competitive field this season with five squads with strong cases as contenders. Among those, FEU, with an essentially intact core still led by Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia, has the slight edge.
BV: Can I still root for UP? I would wanna attend a Sunken Garden bonfire again! #biased
UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub once dated Ronda Rousey, to which he said, "Believe me, I did her a favor man. I'm not the guy for the job… She needs a guy who's gonna take a backseat. That's not me. She also needs a guy that's gonna say 'yes ma'am, yes ma'am.’” Would you date Ronda given her dominant tendencies?
Milan Ordoñez/MO (combat sports editor): Yes, but mainly to pick her brain and flesh out her secrets on how to execute the perfect, foolproof arm bar!
SH: Although Ronda Rousey scares the heck out of me, I would try. Ha ha!
TR: Date? Parang maging friend palang nga, I'm scared na. Ha ha!
LM: No harm in trying, but, of course, I don't want to be just another statistic!
NLBR: Definitely. What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger daw, diba? Ronda can hurt you, but I doubt she's gonna kill you.
ME: Why not? But can’t it be Arianny Celeste?
