'Deadpool' villainess was an MMA fighter in real life
What we sports fan would have never missed in the movie is kickass athlete Gina Carano (Photo taken from Carano's Instagram account: @GinaJCaranao)

So, by now, we’ve all seen Deadpool. Uh, right? After two weeks since its showing, it has already crossed $236 million in the United States, online reports say. It has officially eclipsed many superhero films including Captain America: The First Avenger ($176m, 3D) and Ant-Man ($180.3m, 3D), says Forbes.

Behind the crassness, crudeness, and the somehow charming R-rating, what sports fans like us would have never missed in the movie is the scene-stealing Angel Dust, a femme fatale on the evil side whose mutant power is superhuman strength. In real life, the actress Gina Carano is a mixed martial artist.

To #tutu or not to #tutu that is the question. 🐉 let's just ignore the fact that Christmas is over.. 🙈

Carano, 33, is actually an MMA practitioner first before an actress. She took on Muay Thai first (12-1) before MMA. She has had a solid winning streak since her first MMA bouts in 2006 (7-1). Her only MMA loss was her last fight in 2009—she headlined a Strikeforce event with opponent (and eventual winner by TKO) Christiane Justino aka Cyborg.

Some have credited Carano the way people do now with Ronda Rousey, you know, women in the MMA who kick ass. She has since gotten special honors including Yahoo’s "Top Ten Influential Women of 2008," and other “sexy” titles that magazines have come up.

Sadly, her defeat in her last fight has sent her to focus on showbiz, instead. We’re not that complaining, though. Seeing her in Deadpool and Fast & Furious 6 (she’s also part of the cast of an MMA film, Kickboxer: Vengeance, co-starring with former wrestler Dave Batista!) definitely got us drawn again to her being a badass!

Rewatch her scene in the blockbuster here!
