There’s a sense of familiarity seeing Janeena Chan on TV. You may have come across the Upfront at UAAP host from her hit blog or from some brand launch or event she had stood for as host. Certainly, the 22-year-old chinita has been hosting for a long time now—her first was when she was 11 for local children’s magazine show Kid’s TV (where she bagged the 23rd PMPC Star Awards Best Kiddie Show Host award), and some of her most recent before her ABS-CBN Sports + Action job include being an on-cam talent for Velvet Channel and CGE TV in Da Loop. She was also a Junior Jock for Magic 89.9.
“I enjoyed every bit of it especially since we got to travel often,” she says of what she finds enjoyable from it.
For Upfront at UAAP, the farthest Janeena might have gone is the SM Mall of Asia Arena for a basketball game, or Kiefer Ravena’s home address in Cainta, Rizal where she toured the Phenom’s house to get to know him more. No far-off travels for now, but the Ateneo de Manila University Communications graduate is very honest about how much she enjoys at present.

Mind you, Janeena isn’t just a pretty face (although, we don’t mind!). She was nominated for best thesis and a consistent Dean’s lister in college. She was also sporty growing up (level: competitive), so being a fan of the league came naturally in her genes.
“Even before I entered college, I already knew how big the games were. Especially the height of all the Ateneo vs. De La Salle rivalry. Who could ignore it? I also particularly love watching the UAAP Cheerdance Competition since I was a gymnast, and briefly a cheerleader back in high school,” she says, adding that she almost joined the Blue Babble Battalion. “I know first hand how much hard work, great time management skills, effort, and love are put into each routine.“
The blue in Janeena’s blood might have seen a low, an unbiased sports host that she is now. But this reduced nothing of her love for the university sports scene, she says.
“I'm a fan of all schools—promise!” she laughs. “It's not that difficult to appreciate and admire what each team has to offer!”
If at all, Janeena is just her usual jumpy self—excited than ever to get to do her job. That is, to expose the other side of the UAAP’s most loved athletes. For this semester, she puts the spotlight on the stars of women’s volleyball.
“Girl power and strong moves!! It will never go out of style! These young talented athletes are such strong, and driven women. It's no surprise how they've become superstars in their own right… As a casual volleyball fan, I look forward to achieving a deeper understanding and appreciation of what really goes around both on and off the court, and I can't wait to share them to all the fans on the show,” she says.
“I expect to be challenged, to learn more about the ins and outs of the UAAP community especially coming from the dedicated teams and athletes, and to fall in love with the craft of sharing the love and fun on what goes around to all the UAAP fans!”
