We bumped into UST star spiker Mela Tunay before she went on stage at the #UAAPFanWeekend held outside the SM Mall of Asia Arena last Saturday. She wore that usual wide but shy smile, as if unassumingly anticipating her last game on the next day, one dreaded for all acceptable reasons. One, it was what wiped the Growling Tigresses off the UAAP season, courtesy of the striving UP Lady Maroons.

It was also her last game.

Tunay couldn’t help but turn bittersweet as the Communication Arts alumna and now Marketing Communication grad student ends her collegiate career. You'd easily notice it online--she has been retweeting thoughtful messages from fans and fellows from the UAAP, and even posted lengthy goodbye captions on Instagram. It’s quite sad if you ask us, but we’re pretty sure she’ll be visible in the semipros especially that she’s signed with the Cignal HD Spikers.

Drama aside, we went ahead and snatched the demure volleybelle to the corner for some reminiscing of all the fun days one last time. We got into talking about her lasts, and these are some of the beans she's spilled!

Can't find the right words to say or things to do para matanggap na time flies and this Sunday, at 12 nn, it will be my last game sa UAAP. It has been a roller coaster ride for me and the rest of us but above all of this, may mga taong patuloy na pumapalakpak, pumupunta at nagsusuot ng dilaw sa bawat labang hinaharap namin. Despite our shortcomings, may mga taong pinili manatili sa tabi namin, at naghihintay sa labas para sabihing "Ok lang yan ate, andito kami para sa inyo". Kung kaya naman, para sa mga taong hindi nagsawang manatili sa tabi namin, we invite you to please come see us play one last time with and for the UST team this Sunday, 12nn at the MOA Arena. At para sa mga hindi naman makakarating, we would like to invite you to join us at the #uaapfanweekend2 instead, this Saturday 6PM-Moa Arena Marina Way, to personally meet and thank you for being with us all the way. See you!

Years of title drought and I'm sorry because yet I still feel like a champion. I am a champion because I fulfilled the dream of donning that UST jersey with the most amazing people I could possibly share it with. To all my coaches, seniors and ates, teammates, babies, family, friends, lahat lahat na, I cannot thank you enough for being with me all the way. Mula sa pagiging mangmang na bata, tinuruan niyo akong makiramdam sa mga dapat kong gawin at punan, tinuruan niyo akong maging matatag sa kahit anong sitwasyon, tinuruan niyo akong kumapit kahit gaanong kahirap at tinuruan niyo akong magsacrifice ng kahit walang kapalit. You helped me stay strong and made me kept trying to become better. This is by far the best experience I had in my life... Ang pagiging Thomasian Student-Athlete. Walang makakapantay sa mga bagay na natutunan ko at mga taong nakasama ko and for that, Thank you thank you thank you! And to my girls, don't feel bad for not achieving that graceful exit para samin and sa atin, dahil being with you on my final year is THE MOST GRACEFUL AND BEST EXIT which I will cherish forever. Thank you for the sisterhood, respect and love. Mahal na mahal na mahal ko kayo. ☹ I will be your ate always. Ipagtatanggol ko kayo kahit kanino alam niyo yan ☹ I'll see you come back stronger on the years to come. To jessey and ate gi, i will never forget that day of the tryouts for the UST women's team 5 years ago, and we were all scared of not getting in. today marks our last game... we made it altogether! and yet now, here we are, still so afraid but for the exact opposite reason... We're afraid of leaving. I'm proud of you both and I will always be at your side through thick and thin. You both know that! To the fans, the Thomasian as well as the entire Philippine Volleyball Community, to the UAAP... Thank you. This is MA CARMELA DE LEON TUNAY of the UST GOLDEN TIGRESSES, NOW SIGNING OFF. #GoUSTe always and forever.
