Mika Reyes calmly declared this to us at the MOA Arena dugout last Wednesday after the DLSU Lady Spikers had won the deciding match over the FEU Lady Tams, on their way to the #UAAPSeason78 finals this Saturday. We were asking everyone’s favorite middle blocker from Taft how she’s been managing her last term in school, only to realize she has actually zero units left. It sounded something like news to her as well that she had to squeal.
“Oh, yes, I’m done!”
As La Salle takes on Game 1 of their sixth consecutive finals series with two-time defending champs Ateneo, Reyes revealed their no-pressure game plan of “Playing it one goal at a time.”
This battle for the championship trophy is special for Reyes not just because it’s another epic Ateneo-La Salle rivalry that remains to be witnessed. It’s also the last that she and fellow graduating players Ara Galang, Cyd Demecillo, Mika Esperanza, and Carol Cerveza will be playing for.
“I’m really happy that we’re back in the final especially na it’s our last year to some of us.”
“Ako, I’ll just enjoy my game,” she vowed, adding that she’ll have to skip the dramatics in the meantime and just focus on the games.
“Positive thinking pa din dapat.”
All said, what’s next for Reyes after the UAAP remains a little hazy—“Maybe, I’ll play in the PSL. I’m planning to take my Masters pero wala pa talaga akong plan!”—so, we all just have to take what’s in the present first. (And right now, it’s a sensational finals series featuring some of the most excellent players the collegiate league has seen yet!)
Reyes obviously isn’t looking at this match as her last, or at least not yet. As for the rest of her lasts, though, here are the most interesting!
Last meal she’s eaten: “Butter toast from Gardenia!”
Last local destination she’s been to: “Tagaytay, nag-bulalo lang. Sobrang random lang! Ha ha!”
Last movie she’s seen: “No Escape starring Owen Wilson.”
Last music she played in the car: “We Can’t Stop by Miley Cyrus. Ha ha!”
Last person she bullied: “Kim Fajardo. Ha ha! Nag-aasaran lang talaga kami.”
Last dance craze she’s danced to: “Twerk It Like Miley by Brandon Beal.”
Last best memory with the Lady Spikers: “Madami, eh. Yung game din namin versus FEU. Parang coming from a talo na game, ayun nakabawi naman. Parang ang saya lang makita ng mga teammates ko we’re all aiming for one goal.”
Last gadget she purchased: “An iPhone 6+!”
Last kikay kit she bought for herself: “Ponytail.”
Last gift she bought for someone: “Chocolates—for my friend!”
Last time she got broken-hearted: “Pwedeng pass? Ha ha!”
Last time she broke someone’s heart: “Ha ha! Shala! Pwedeng pass ulet?”
