The graduating former Best Setter signs off.
When news of Gyzelle Sy's return to the FEU Lady Tamaraws came about earlier this season, the Morayta territory was shaken in excitement. The UAAP Season 74 Best Setter finally made her return to the league, after missing Season 77 to compete in some Philippine Superliga and Shakey’s V-League tournaments. Her comeback would have made this season more epic, too, with women’s volleyball peaking in general and with the superstars from the rest of the squads letting out their claws for one epic season.
Sy was there to bring the Tamaraws to a bronze finish.
“Pagbalik ko ngayon, sobrang memorable na kasi tinanggap pa din ako ng mga coaches. Then na-reach namin yung third place kahit na natalo kami sa La Salle,” Sy says on bowing to would-be champs La Salle for the finals spot. The green team had a twice-to-beat advantage when FEU only conquered them in the first game.
“Para sa ‘min, nothing to lose and walang dapat ikahiya kasi ginawa naming yung best namin.”
As she exits her collegiate career, however, the cheerful, graduating offense master from San Antonio De Padua College isn’t showing any sign of regret. It’s just love for her team, otherwise why return?
“My most memorable experience with the team would be yung team building namin bago mag-start yung UAAP this season. Dun ko nakita yung teamwork namin. Puro happy moments and yung bonding ng team, ang lakas!”
