On the cover of youth magazine Chalk for its Summer Send-off Issue is basketball prodigy and rising star Kobe Paras. He tops the much anticipated and prestigious #ChalkBoysOfSummer list, an annual roundup of up-and-coming heartthrobs in the campus, showbiz, music, and sports scenes.
“Of course, you already know that Kobe Paras is the crème de la crème of this year’s batch as he appears on his very first cover for Chalk,” says Chalk’s editor-in-chief Elaine Carag about the month’s cover boy.
“Kobe is hot, hot, hot, hot, and you don’t wanna snooze on this!”
It was Spring Break when the Chalk crew shot the 18 year-old star. He had his family: Dad Benjie, Mom Lyxen, and younger brothers Riley and Sam (André kept busy with showbiz) with him at time of the cover shoot.
Filipino photographer Emman Montalvan led the shoot, which showed the younger boy being brooding and more mature than some recall him to be as a national team player in the FIBA and a La Salle Greenhills player. The backdrop? The sunny Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California.
In the cover story, Paras talked about his struggles fitting in, missing his family whom he only sees in special occasions, and chasing his big dreams to make his country proud.
“I just want to say thank you for all the support and I will do my best to make you guys even more proud of me!” Paras said in the article.
Other sports stars are also part of this year’s #ChalkBoysOfSummer, including DLSU Green Batter Carlos Muñoz, DLSU Trackster Jasper Tanhueco, UP Fighting Maroon Jarrell Lim, NU Bulldog Kim Cinco, PLM basketball player Kevin Mariñas, Ateneo Blue Eagle Cole Micek, and former San Beda Red Lion Karl Kramer.
