Tell #UAAPSeason78 Best Blocker Majoy Baron of DLSU that she has the makings of a beauty queen and she’ll shrug it off with a smug smile. In all honesty, the lean, statuesque chinita (are we giving away too much?) has grown too tired of getting that compliment when her focus now is volleyball, really.
“Nagmo-model kasi ako dati,” the 5’11” standing Tarlac native recalls her runway experiences back in high school.
Baron went to Baguio City National High School in her freshman year, before returning to her hometown for the rest of high school. She was already playing volleyball there, but it was at Conception Catholic School where she would play more for the varsity. She played it during the school intramurals in her sophomore year, and by junior year and the next, she went on to play at the Palarong Pambansa representing the CLRAA Region.
Baron’s good looks and height backed by her athletic leanings easily lifted her off a crowd. And there was also that she herself had that effortless confidence, which has made her a stunning personality altogether.
How kikay is Baron exactly? She never goes to a game without applying concealer over her eye bags and the dark circles under her peepers. She also makes sure her hair looks good, and that her brows are always—how do girls say it—on fleek?
“Part na sya ng ritual ko before a game. Kailangan maayos ako lagi,” she says shyly.
“Nagko-concealer ako kasi yung mata ko medyo stressed. Malaki eye bags ko!” she explains further.
Baron has become the go-to girl among the group when it comes to beauty tips, so much so that “yung mga teammates ko, sa kin lang din nagpapaayos ng kilay.”
In this “project,” Carol Cerveza and Carmel June Saga are her top disciples as well as, ehem, success stories.
True, Baron doesn’t really put too much on at school since “wala nang time,” and “after training, diretso sa class na medyo late na at wala ng time mag-aayos. So, lagi akong wet look pag first class ko.” But for everything else, she puts total effort as it helps boost her desired level of self-confidence as she takes on a student-athlete’s day cramped with all kinds of challenges.
It’s just that her best confidence-boosting activity is makeup, a skill she learned long ago from her brother’s girlfriend; and that her best confidence-boosting tools are the size of her finger, with tags like Maybelline and Revlon.
