Finishing fourth place in NCAA Season 91, the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers really personify their moniker. This season, they plan to impress more to make up for their failed finals attempt. The end goal, of course: A championship.

How?

“Intense kami during training. Seryoso na kami pag galit na yung coach namin,” one of the team’s veterans and top scorer Paolo Pontejos tells us of their sessions with Coach Verjel Meneses.

They may have lost their first game this season, but who says that’s it? With an intact team (Tey Teodoro, Jordan dela Paz, Gio Lasquety, Abdoul Poutouochi, and Abdul Razal Abdul Wahab still together!), JRU is looking good for the rest of the season. We recently caught up with them on how they’re bonding together so they can form a more solid group!

How do you bond?
Pontejos: We go out and drink, visiting bars together.
John Grospe: Bonding lang sa practice.
Dela Paz: Bonding lang after practice at sa class. Lagi kaming magkasama kaya maganda talaga yung friendship natin.

How do you guys unwind together?

How do you deal with fights?
Grospe: Wala naman kaming problema. Good boys kami! Never kaming hindi nagkasunduan!

How do you deal with girls, especially if you’re all crushing on one girl?
Grospe: Same!
Dela Paz: Same same, friends over girls. Si Jessy Mendiola ang team crush namin! Ha ha!

Where have you traveled to together?
Grospe: Thailand, Bohol, Boracay, Korea!
Dela Paz: Lagi tayong nag-dinner. Night out at umiinom sa mga bars, restaurants. Good time lang kapag hindi kami sa game.

Happy birthday to my brother from another! @paolopontejos

What’s the wildest stuff you’ve done together?
Grospe: Wild? Next question! Ha ha!
Pontehos: Nagmotor kami sa Bohol at isang teammate naaksidente!
Grospe: We just study. Kasi yun talaga yung hilig namin—mag-study!
Pontejos: Hmm, parang hindi yan totoo! Ha ha!
Dela Paz: DOTA!

Who’s the team heartthrob?
Grospe: Si Abdulwahab, yung import namin.
Dela Paz: Hindi kami cause we’re just ordinar, eh. Ha ha!

Who’s the fashionista?
Grospe: Si Gio Lasquety. Kasi palaging maganda ang mga sapatos niya. Tapos laging sabay sa uso!

Who’s the nerdiest?
Pontejos: Ako yun.

Who’s the funniest?
Grospe: Si MJ Dela Virgen. Lagi kasi siyang nakangiti. Kahit may sakit siya, nakangiti pa rin.

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget. #PaBebeBoys
