You’d think that they’re just some DOTA-loving bunch of ballers—which they are, very much, by the way—but the UPHSD Altas are more than that. Teamwork and camaraderie are two things they’re really eager to work on, as they aim for that first ever championship.

But, first, “Mabalik mun sa Final Four,” says guard GJ Ylagan of his 6th placer of a team in the last season.

With the legendary Aric del Rosario out as a coach and succeeded by the school’s owner Antonio Tamayo, lawyer Neil Barry Tobias, and Nigerian Nic Omorogbe, the Las Piñas squad is looking into a stronger team.

“We stay serious because it’s important to us,” Anton Tamayo points out. “What I love most is how we bond together, we all get along. I mean, yeah, there are some clicks, but at the end of the day, we all play for each other.”

When training is done, however, the boys go back to being them boys…

How do you team relax and unwind?
Tamayo: We go to a bar and drink with each other
Ylagan: Yun, we like going out to drink- but, sumasama lang ako, hindi ako umiinom.
Mahilig din kami kumain at matulog. Minsan bibili tayo ng mangga. Mahal na mahal namin yung mangga. We're always on a mango food trip! Ha ha!

How do you deal with fights?
Ylagan: Bihira yung nag-aaway sa amin, eh. Puro lang lokohan, asaaran, pero wala naman napipikon. Meron siguro minsan, pero tumatahimik lang. Hindi talaga kaming umaaway.

What happens when there’s a girl involved—especially if you’re all crushing on the same one?
Tamayo: I’d have to talk it over with my teammates
Ylagan: Magpaparaya nalang ako sa kanila. Pag-gusto ko talaga, eh di bahala na si girl. Kung sino nalang pipiliin niya.
Gab Dagangon: Wala, sa kanila nalang. Marami pang babae na iba.

Who’s your team crush?
Ykagan: Ah si Liza Soberano. Kasi, gabi-gabi, nasa tv kami lahat, Dolce Amore lagi yung pinapanood! Ha ha!

Where have you traveled together?
Tamayo: Laguna, Panso, Subic, Pangasinan.
Ylagan: Masaya sya. Lagi munang dumadaan sa church. Nagsisimba tapos beach.
Dagangon: May good times, hindi palaging basketball!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve done together?
Ylagan: May time na naginuman tayo sa dorm. Pampatulog lang kasi may training pa bukas. Bigla nalang yung pampatulog naging, “Isa pa! Isa pa!” Eh, ngayon nalasing tayong lahat. Yung banyo malaki, parang dorm na. Ha ha! Nag-swimming tayo doon! We were diving na, pagapang-gapang sa floor. Ha ha!
Dagangon: Yung iba, natutulog na nga sa CR, eh. Ha ha!

Who’s the team heartthrob?
Dagangon: Si Anton! Maraming babae yan. Ha ha!
Tamayo: That’s not true! I only have one girl and I’m loyal to her.

Who’s the most stylish?
Tamayo: Para sa akin, GJ.

Who’s the coolest?
Tamayo: Gab, kasi he doesn’t even have to try at anything. Like basketball, he doesn’t even have to try.
Dagangon: Para sa akin, si Anton! Ha ha!

Who’s the nerdiest one of all?
Tamayo: Bright Akhuetie and Prince Eze.
Ylagan: Ang imports naming, mga Nigerian players.

Who’s the joker?
Ylagan: Flash Sadiwa! Kasi parang comedy siya lagi. Makulit siyang kasama pero lahat natutuwa sa kanya.
