Last season’s fifth placer just catapulted themselves to this year’s favorite squad, and they are not failing expectations by ranking first in the race so far. The secret? Nothing more than being focused at training, with Jerry Codiñera, a proven champ back in the UAAP and the PBA, at the helm.
“Palaging go hard. Siyempre, dapat lahat ng tinuturo ng coach naming dapat ma-apply namin. Magawa namin sa practice para magawa namin sa game,” says Kraniel Villoria.
“Yun yung mga sinasabi ni Coach—ilalagay namin sa isip para sa laro na, focused na agad,” adds Richard Abanes.
Once they’re done with training, however, the Chiefs are still into developing a champion state of mind by keeping their friendship and teamwork tight. They are usually caught at the dorm doing “kulitan,” singing, playing DOTA (“definitely, a lot of them,” says Zach Nicholls!), and watching basketball games and shows on TV together—or even It’s Showtime.
Curious on what else do they do together? Read on.
What is it like living with the team under one roof?
Nicholls: Usually just relaxed, lying down, and resting.
How do you deal with fights?
Nicholls: Usually if we get into a fight, it doesn’t last long cause we know we have to be a team and teamwork is important, so we can’t have conflict between us.
What happens when there’s a girl involved—especially if you’re all crushing on the same one?
Villoria: Never pa namin na experience yan.
Abanes: Bigayan nalang. Ha ha! Sayo nalang yung babae na yan, marami pang ibang babae diyan, eh. Ha ha!
Who’s your team crush?
All: Liza Soberano!
What are some of the places you guys have adventured together?
Villoria: Cagayan de Oro, Ormoc, Cabanatuan, Pampanga
Abanes: Diyan nabubuo ang chemistry naming.
Nicholls: It’s good for team chemistry cause we’re stuck together so we have to get along.
What’s the wildest thing you guys have done together as a team?
Kraniel: After a championship game, partying. Clubbing, hangover, maybe. Ha ha! We just visit the clubs nearest the championship venues.
Richard: Pero walang babae, puro lalake lang. Yan yun rule naming.
Zach: Probably just visiting bars and drinking.
Who’s the team heartthrob?
Villoria: Zach.
Nicholls: Yeah, I have a girlfriend already. I stay loyal!
Who’s the fashionista?
Abanes: Kraniel. Kasi palagi siyang changing outfits.
Who’s the coolest?
Villoria: Si Richard. Simple lang, eh. Masaya palagi.
Abanes: Dapat kasi, smile lang palagi. Ha ha!
Who’s the funniest?
Nicholls: Dioncee Holts. He’s always, in whatever situation, he always makes it funny!
